Painted pottery animals include cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, dogs and chickens. The pottery cattle are about 71cm long, 39cm high and were made of grey pottery with orange paint. The cattle, big and healthy with four strong legs, had horns and tails made of wood, which have decayed with some small holes left. The sheep, 30cm long and 44cm high, were made of grey pottery with some white and brown paint. They have a round body with beard and stuck-up tail. Their wooden horns decayed too. Pottery pigs(44cm long and 24cm high) were made of grey pottery with white paint. Their bodies are fat and big with four strong and short legs. They have long mouths, big ears and paunchy belly. They are exquisitely carved with an air of charming naivety. The dogs can be divided into wild dog and domestic dog. The wild ones are 33cm long and 19cm high while the domestic ones are 30cm long and 20cm high. Both of them were made of grey pottery with white and brown paint. The wild dogs are looking ahead with vertical tail while the domestic ones have short legs with stuck-up tails. The pottery cocks are 16cm long and 14cm high while the hens are 14cm long and 12cm high. Both of them were made of grey pottery with bright color. Served as meet storage of the tomb host, these animals reflect both the luxury lifestyle of royal families and the advanced husbandry of the Western Han Dynasty. |
