For the purpose of excavation, protection and exhibition of 31 ancient ships’ site in Italy Pisa, in 2007, the Pisa Community applied to the UN for the cultural cooperation between European country and the Third World, including “Han Yangling·Pisa” cultural cooperation project. Since the agreement on the project has been reached between Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau in China and Italy Pisa Community in 2008, the cooperation project has involved many institutions from both Chinese and European parts. The co-partners from Chinese part include Han Yangling Museum(HYM), Shaanxi Provincial Archaeological Institute, Xi’an Cultural Relic’s Conservation and Restoration Center, and Qin Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum. The European co-partners involves University of Pisa Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry Department, Italy Soprintendenza Per i Beni Archeologici Della Toscana , Germany Technische Universitat München, and Belgium Ename center for public archaeology and heritage presentation.
Probe and research on the restoration and conservation of painted relics and organic remains unearthed from HYM will be the focus of the cooperation project with the aim of finding a scientific restoration and conservation method. At the same time, comparison research will be launched on the different site protection and exhibition technique between South and East to absorb good ideas and methods and seek the best protection and exhibition method of the historical heritages.
This cultural project will last for a year, and all the new points of view concerning the collaboration will be issued on the official website and the concluding academic fruits will be published.
